Writers’ Guidelines

Style 1900 is a quarterly magazine published in February, May, August and November. We cover the Arts and Crafts movement and related aspects of late-19th-century and early-20th-century design for an audience of enthusiasts, collectors, historians and institutions.

Professional writers or scholars who are interested in writing for Style 1900 should e-mail a resume or biography along with three published writing samples (preferably from a magazine, newspaper or journal) to Editor in Chief Fred Albert at fred@style1900.com. Files should be sent as Word or jpeg attachments, or as links.

If you’d like to propose an article, please include a 200-word summary of your article along with a statement establishing your expertise in this topic, if applicable. (Proposals and unsolicited manuscripts are submitted on speculation and will not be returned.) Writers are responsible for gathering illustrations and securing permissions from copyright holders; please include a list or thumbnail images of proposed illustrations and their sources. High-resolution jpegs or tiffs are preferred for publication; color slides, transparencies and professional prints are also acceptable. Click here to view the Style 1900 photo spec sheet.

Commissioned articles and illustrations are due four months prior to publication, or as arranged with the Editor in Chief. Writers are paid upon publication.

Thank you for your interest in Style 1900. We look forward to hearing from you.
